American Dance Festival 2005 Sound Workshops
#1 - Sounddance: a hands-on digital sound workshop for dance artists
In this workshop, students
engage in an intuitive hands-on crash course in practical
digital sound
creation techniques. Fundamentals of sound recording and computer
sound
processing are introduced as a springboard for playful experimentation
with
noise.
Over the course of six sessions, students create
their own digital sound compositions
in a Duke computer lab (or on their
own laptops), make field recordings with a portable
MiniDisc recorder,
and
participate in listening activities, journaling, and discussion
designed
to open their ears to the world of sound around them.
This
workshop is appropriate for all levels of experience, from seasoned
computer-users
to confirmed technophobes.</p>

[edit] #2 Sound Collage
Students learn the basics of digital sound editing in "Audacity," a free program available for both Mac and PC, and create their own sound compositions. The workshop takes place in a Duke computer lab, but students may also choose to work on their own laptops.
